UDTT Talks Debut, Dreams, and the Making of School Rush in Exclusive Interview

Get to know the members of UDTT as they share their journey from trainee to their debut album and webtoon.
A new face in the K-pop scene, UDTT is a five-member girl group stepping into the spotlight with energy, heart, and big dreams. Comprised of Risako, Han Chaehee, Koo Hanna, and Kwan Yejin, the group first caught attention with their pre-debut single “Retry” in December 2024. While some fans may recognize individual members from survival shows like Girls Planet 999, My Teenage Girl, and Universe Ticket, UDTT is now beginning their journey together as a team, eager to grow and connect through music.
Alongside their music, UDTT also tells their story in a unique way through the webtoon "Uddang Tangtang Girls," written by Jehu. Launched on December 17, 2024, the series follows a fictionalized but emotionally grounded version of the group’s journey toward debut, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their dreams, struggles, and the friendships that hold it all together. It’s a creative companion to their real-life debut, making the group's narrative feel even more personal and immersive.
Now, with the release of their debut single album 'School Rush' on April 29, 2025, UDTT steps into the spotlight with the upbeat and catchy title track “Really Really.” In our exclusive interview, the members share what this moment means to them, reflect on the path that brought them here, and open up about the heart behind their music, their webtoon, and the exciting road ahead.

RISAKO: Hello, I am UDTT's ‘똑띠댄서’ (smart dancer) RISAKO! My position is dance and vocals. I’m the type who likes everything neat, so my room is tidy, and I erase everything on my phone except for the pictures I need. I even feel like the notification numbers on the icons are a task, so I always reply quickly and keep my notifications at '0.' I’m always busy. I also always trim my nails into square shapes. 안녕하세요 저는 UDTT의 똑띠댄서(똑똑한 댄서) ‘리사코’입니다! 제 포지션은 댄스와 보컬입니다. 뭐든 깔끔한걸 좋아한 성격이라 방도 깔끔하고 사진도 필요한거 말고는 다 지우고 휴대폰 아이콘 알림의 숫자 보이는것도 과제로 느껴서 답장도 빠르고 알림을 ‘0’으로 할 만큼 항상 바쁜사람입니다. 손톱도 사각으로 항상 깎아요.

YEJIN: Hello, I am the mischievous youngest member of UDTT, YEJIN. My position is dance, vocal, and rap. RISAKO made my signature for me, and it took me quite a while to perfect it and get used to it by myself.

JESSICA: Hello! I’m 20-year-old Lu U-Ting(陆雨婷), and my stage name means “affection between friends.” I’m more confident in rapping than singing, and I’m the tallest in the team. My MBTI is ENTJ. Usually, I’m cute and fun, but on stage, you’ll probably see my unexpected charm!
안녕하세요! 저는 올해 20살인 ‘루우팅(陆雨婷)’이예요. 제 활동명인 ‘우정’은 ‘친구사이의 정’이라는는 의미를 담고 있어요. 저는 노래보다 랩에 더 자신있고 팀내에서 키가 제일 커요. 제 MBTI 는 ENTJ이며, 평소에는 귀엽고 재미있는 성격이지만 무대 위에서는 아마 제 반전매력을 느끼시게 되실거예요.
Congratulations on your debut with ‘School Rush.’ Can you tell us a little more about this album? What messages or feelings do you hope fans take away from your music? 'School Rush'로 데뷔하신 걸 축하드립니다! 이 앨범에 대해 조금 더 자세히 소개해 주실 수 있을까요? 팬들이 여러분의 음악을 통해 어떤 메시지나 감정을 느끼기를 바라시나요? YEJIN: Our first album, ‘School Rush,’ captures the bright and energetic appearances of UDTT members who have become students. There are actually a lot of fun elements in the (physical) album, such as our student IDs, so fans will be able to keep it as a memory. The title track “REALLY REALLY” is a pop song based on deep house, and it expresses the sweet yet slightly bittersweet excitement of first love, interpreted through UDTT’s own unique emotions. Composer Kim Joo Hyung, who has worked on countless K-pop hits for artists like ENHYPEN, IVE, STRAY KIDS, WOO!AH!, and CLASS:Y, and Hayley Aitken, who has collaborated with TWICE, ITZY, NiziU, (G)I-DLE, and Red Velvet, both took part in making this track, elevating its overall quality. I hope our music can bring comfort, lift spirits, and sometimes give strength to our fans. I’d love for listeners to truly feel the sincerity we put into each song. What does debuting as UDTT mean to each of you personally?UDTT로 데뷔한다는 것은 여러분 각자에게 어떤 의미인가요?
RISAKO: "UDTT is where we can see the scenery we couldn't see alone together." I practiced hard on my own for years, but I believe the future I see now is only possible because we came together. “혼자서는 못봤던 풍경을 같이 볼수있는 UDTT”입니다. 혼자 몇년동안 열심히 연습했지만 우리가 모였기때문에 보이는 미래가 있다고 생각합니다. CHAEHEE: I think we’re like a “1st place lottery ticket.” With regular tickets, you just need a few matching numbers, but for the jackpot, every number has to align perfectly, just like how we all had to be the right people, coming together in harmony, to finally debut. That’s what makes it feel like we hit the jackpot. 저는 ‘1등복권’ 같다고 생각합니다. 다른 복권들은 몇개의 번호만 맞아도 되지만, 1등 복권은 모든 번호들이 다 잘 맞아야 하는것처럼, 좋은 멤버들을 만나 모두가 잘 어우러졌기에 데뷔를 한거라 1등 복권 같습니다. HANNA: The process of debuting together wasn't easy, but because of those times, debuting with UDTT feels more valuable and special. 저희 다같이 데뷔하는 과정이 쉽지 많은 않았지만 그 시간들이 있었기에 UDTT로 데뷔하는 지금이 더 값지고 특별하게 느껴져요. YEJIN: UDTT’s debut feels like a miracle we created together. It’s a path I could never have walked alone, and having these members by my side makes it all the more meaningful. It also comes with a greater sense of responsibility. I think this is the moment that lets me start dreaming of the future all over again. UDTT의 데뷔는 멤버들과 함께 만들어낸 기적 같은 일이에요. 혼자였다면 절대 올 수 없었을 길을 함께 걸어와 준 멤버들이 있어서 더 의미 있고 또 그만큼 책임감도 커진 것 같아요. 이 시작이 미래를 다시 꿈꾸게 되는 순간인 것 같아요.
Looking back on your pre-debut journey, especially with your pre-debut release “Retry,” what growth have you seen in yourselves as artists?
프리데뷔 곡 “Retry”를 포함해 데뷔 전 여정을 돌아보았을 때, 아티스트로서 어떤 성장을 느끼셨나요?
CHAEHEE: I’ve been able to express myself musically with more clarity and confidence. 음악적 표현을 조금 더 확실히 할 수 있게 되었습니다.
HANNA: While preparing for our debut, I realized there were still many areas I needed to improve. But compared to my trainee days, I now feel a deeper sense of responsibility and a more thoughtful approach to performing on stage.
지금까지 데뷔 준비를 하며 부족한 점도 많이 느꼈지만 연습생 때와는 또 다른 책임감과 무대에 대한 생각이 더 깊어진 거 같아요.
If you could describe ‘School Rush’ in three words, what would they be? 'School Rush'를 세 단어로 표현한다면 어떤 단어들이 떠오르시나요?
YEJIN: “Dreamy, fate, night.”
These are the first three words that come to mind when I think of our title track, “REALLY REALLY.” The song carries a dreamy atmosphere, like walking through a dream, with a story of love that pulls you in like destiny. It all feels like it’s unfolding against the backdrop of a quiet night, still and calm, yet filled with deep, lingering emotions. “몽환적, 운명, 밤.”
타이틀곡 ‘REALLY REALLY’를 떠올리면 저는 이 세 단어가 가장 먼저 생각나요. 전체적으로 꿈속을 걷는 듯한 몽환적인 분위기 속에, 운명처럼 끌리는 사랑 이야기가 담겨 있고, 그 모든 장면이 고요한 밤을 배경으로 펼쳐지는 느낌이에요. 조용하지만 감정은 더 짙게 느껴지는 그런 밤이요.
What were some unexpected challenges or funny moments from the filming of the “School Rush” music video?‘School Rush’ 뮤직비디오 촬영 중 예상치 못한 어려움이나 웃긴 에피소드가 있었다면 소개해 주세요.
RISAKO: For our pre-release track “RETRY,” we filmed the choreography in sections—first verse, second verse, and third verse separately. But for our debut song “REALLY REALLY,” we filmed the full song (choreography) all at once, checked the monitor, and then filmed it again in full. Doing it continuously like that was an unexpected challenge! But thanks to that, now performing it once through doesn’t tire me out anymore! 선공개곡 ‘RETRY’때는 안무부분을 1절/2절/3절 나눠서 찍었는데, 이번 데뷔곡 ‘REALLY REALLY’는 완곡을 찍고 모니터 확인하고 또 완곡으로 찍고 확인을 했어요. 연속으로 찍은게 예상치 못한 어려움이였던것같아요! 하지만 그렇게 한 덕분에 이제 한번 추면 안 힘들어요!!
CHAEHEE: We used a drone to film the group choreography, and since it was our first time with a drone, I was startled when it flew close. My surprised expression was so funny! But as we kept filming, I gradually adapted and became familiar with the drone. 드론을 띄어서 군무 촬영을 했는데, 처음 드론 촬영을 하다보니 드론이 가까이 왔을때 놀라서, 놀란 표정이 너무 재밌었습니다! 하지만 점점 적응해서 드론과 친해질 수 있었습니다.
Out of all the ‘School Rush’ concept photo versions, which one did you personally love the most, and which one do you think your fans will be drawn to?‘School Rush’ 콘셉트 포토 중에서 개인적으로 가장 마음에 들었던 버전은 무엇이고, 팬들이 가장 좋아할 것 같은 버전은 무엇이라고 생각하시나요?
RISAKO: I personally liked the pink tracksuit concept because the sky-blue hat was so cute! But I think fans might love the school uniform concept the most.
저는 핑크 트레이닝복 컨셉이 하늘색 모자가 귀여워서 마음에 들었고 팬분들은 교복컨셉 좋아하실것같애요!
CHAEHEE: My favorite was the “little princess” concept, and I think fans will like that one too! 저는 소공녀 컨셉이 제일 마음에 들었고 팬분들도 소공녀 컨셉을 맘에 들어 하실 거 같습니다!
HANNA: I love pink, so naturally, the pink outfit was my favorite. But I feel like fans probably liked the “Little Princess” look best! Didn’t it feel so princess-like and lovely? (laughs) 저는 핑크를 좋아해서 핑크 착장이 가장 마음에 들었지만 팬 분들은 소공녀 컨셉을 가장 좋아하실 거 같았어요! 공주같고 너무 사랑스럽지 않았나요?? (laughs)
YEJIN: My favorite was the school uniform look. The shorts in that outfit really brought out a boyish charm and a simple student vibe that felt like “me.” But I think fans would go for the pink tracksuit. It’s bright, energetic, and really catches the eye. 전 교복 착장이 제일 맘에 들었어요. 그 반바지 의상이 저만의 보이쉬한 이미지와 수수한 학생 같은 느낌을 살려주는 것 같아서요. 근데 팬분들은 핑크 트레이닝복을 좋아하실 것 같아요. 밝고 활발한 이미지를 줘서 눈에 띄는 것 같거든요.
How would you describe UDTT’s group dynamic? Is there a role each of you naturally takes on during practice or behind the scenes, like leader, mood maker, or perfectionist? UDTT의 팀 분위기는 어떤가요? 연습하거나 무대 뒤에서 자연스럽게 맡게 되는 역할(예: 리더, 분위기 메이커, 완벽주의자 등)이 있다면 소개해 주세요.
RISAKO: The atmosphere in UDTT is like a group of close sisters—fun and warm! We’re very clear about switching ON and OFF. When it’s time to work, we focus, and when it’s time to rest, we truly relax. During breaks, it might be quiet at first, but as soon as someone shares a funny video or memory, we all burst out laughing. If someone doesn’t laugh, we tease them, asking if it’s not funny, and if someone forces a laugh, we tell them, “Don’t laugh if it’s not funny!” which makes us laugh even more. It's always noisy, warm, and fun! 저희 UDTT의 팀분위기는 친한 자매 같은 재밌고 따뜻한 분위기 입니다! 일단 할 때 하고 쉴때 쉬는 ON/OFF가 확실합니다. 쉬는 시간은 조용하다가도 누군가 한명이 웃긴 영상이나 웃겼던 일 말하면 다같이 웃고, 또 누군가가 안 웃으면 재미없냐고 장난치고, 또 안웃기면서 억지로 웃으면 재미없으면 웃지말라고하고 그말에 또 웃어요. 계속 시끄럽고 따뜻하고 장난치고 엄청 재밌는 분위기입니다!
CHAEHEE: Our group vibe is exactly like our name, “UDTT” (Udangtangtang Sonyeodan), which means loud and clumsy girl squad. It’s hectic and noisy in the best way! We take care of each other and somehow just click, even without saying much. It feels like playing with your elementary school best friends, and also like a family. 저희 UDTT의 분위기는 우당탕탕소녀단 이름처럼 정말 우당탕탕하고 시끌벅적하면서도 잘 챙겨주고 말하지 않아도 마음이 잘 맞아서, 초등학생때 친구들과 노는 느낌도 나면서 가족같기도 합니다!
HANNA: RISAKO is like a mom at home; caring, but also a mischievous prankster. CHAEHEE is like an angelic older sister who’s also your best friend. YEJIN feels like a loud little sister. It’s super chaotic in the best way. I’m an only child, but if I had real sisters, I think this is exactly how it would feel! (laughs) 리사코 언니는 정말 가정적인 엄마 같지만 유치한 장난꾸러기이기도하고, 채희 언니는 친구 같은 천사언니, 예진이는 시끄러운 막내동생 같은 느낌으로 엄청 시끌벅적해요. 저는 외동이지만 친자매들이 있었다면 이런 느낌이지 않았을까 싶어요 (laughs)
YEJIN: I don't think there's a single day that I don't smile. Everyone is a mood maker. Even when we practice, there's a lot of laughter, but everyone is a perfectionist, so I think we're a perfect team. 정말 하루도 안 웃는 날이 없는 것 같아요. 모두가 분위기 메이커입니다. 연습할 때도 웃음이 넘쳐나지만 모두가 완벽주의자라서 정말 완벽한 팀인 것 같아요.
What do you think is UDTT’s distinctive charm as a group, and what charms do each of you bring to the group?UDTT 만의 그룹으로서의 매력은 무엇이라고 생각하시나요? 그리고 각 멤버가 팀에 더하고 있는 개별적인 매력은 어떤 것이 있을까요?
RISAKO: I think the charm of our team is how close, fun, and bright we are, just like real sisters! As for my personal charm, I’d say I’m cute, funny, and smart. The members often tell me my actions are adorable, that I say funny things, and they’re always like, “Wow, you’re so smart!” (laughs) 친자매 같이 친하고 재밌고 밝은 점이 저희 팀의 매력이라고 생각합니다! 제 매력은 귀엽고 웃기고 똑똑한게 매력이라고 생각합니다. 멤버들이 제 행동이 귀엽다고 해주고 뭐 말하면 웃기다고 해주고 또 “와~ 똑똑해” 라는말을 자주 들어서요. (laughs)
CHAEHEE: Each member of UDTT has a completely different charm, which makes everything so fun! I think my charm is my low-key humor. I’m actually funnier than you think! (laughs) 저희 UDTT는 모두가 다 매력이 달라서 재밌습니다! 저의 매력은 은은한 개그라고 생각합니다 생각보다 재밌어용 (laughs)
HANNA: I think our team's biggest charm is that we have a really sisterly vibe. I think we each have different visuals, like a puppy, a cat, or a rabbit! 정말 친자매 같은 바이브가 저희 팀의 가장 큰 매력이라고 생각해요. 강아지상, 고양이상, 토끼상으로 각자의 비주얼 적으로도 매력이 다양한 거 같아요!
YEJIN: We're all really different, but I think the charm is that we give off a strangely similar vibe. If you watch us for a while, you'll understand what I mean (laughs). I think my charm is that I have a mouth that never stops. You can say that it's what keeps the energy up. 저희는 각자 정말 다르지만, 또 묘하게 비슷한 느낌을 주는 게 매력인 것 같아요. 저희를 쭉 지켜 보시면 무슨 얘기인지 이해하실 수 있으실거예요 (laughs). 전 쉬지 않는 입이 매력인 것 같아요. 텐션을 유지해주는 역할이라고 할 수 있죠.
The webtoon “Uddang Tangtang Girls,” following your journey, is so fun! What was your first reaction when you heard about it? 당신의 여정을 담은 웹툰 "Uddang Tangtang Girls"가 정말 재밌어요! 처음 들었을 때 어떤 반응이셨나요?
HANNA: I was so excited to hear that our debut preparation story was coming out as a webtoon, and I think every character in it is so charming in their own way. 저희만의 데뷔 준비 스토리가 웹툰으로 나온다고 하니 너무 신기했고 캐릭터 하나하나가 다 매력있었던 거 같아요.
YEJIN: I thought it should be around 100 episodes. We've gone through so much together over, so there are just so many stories to tell. 저는 한 100화 정도 있어야 되겠다 싶었어요. 같이 지내온 시간동안 정말 많은 일들이 있었거든요.
How closely do your webtoon characters reflect your real personalities or group dynamics? 웹툰 속 캐릭터들이 실제 성격이나 팀 내 관계와 얼마나 비슷하다고 느끼시나요?
RISAKO: About 80% of it feels accurate! I think it’s so spot-on, probably because the author actually interviewed us directly!80% 정도는 비슷한것같아요! 작가님께 직접 인터뷰 해주셔서 그런지 거의 비슷합니다!
Do you have a favorite episode or moment from the webtoon so far that stands out to you? 지금까지 공개된 웹툰 에피소드 중 가장 기억에 남는 장면이나 에피소드가 있다면 무엇인가요?
CHAEHEE: The expressions on the UDTT members' faces when they first heard the name of the group, Udangtangtang Girls, were so funny.UDTT 멤버들이 처음 우당탕탕소녀단이라는 그룹이름을 들었을때의 표정이 너무 재밌었습니다 (laughs)
What’s one goal—big or small—that each of you hopes to achieve this year as UDTT? 올해 UDTT로서 꼭 이루고 싶은 목표가 있다면, 크든 작든 하나씩 말씀해 주세요.
RISAKO: It's listening to our music on the street! More specifically, it's seeing people excitedly singing along to it! If people passing by know our song, it means it's a good song. It would make me so happy and proud! 길거리에서 우리 음악 듣기 입니다! 더 크게 말하자면 그걸 신나게 따라 부르는 사람 보기 입니다! 지나가는 사람들이 저희 노래를 알 정도로 좋은 곡이라는 거잖아요. 너무 행복하고 뿌뜻할것같아요!
CHAEHEE: The goals I definitely want to achieve this year are going on stage at the end of the year (Gayo) and winning first place on a music show! It's been my dream since long ago! 올해 꼭 이루고 싶은 목표는 ‘연말 무대에 오르는것’과 ‘음악방송 1위 하기’ 입니다 ! 예전부터 저의 꿈이였어용 !
HANNA: I want to receive a rookie award under the title of '2025’s Hot New Artist! UDTT!! 저는 ’2025년 주목해야 할 핫 신인! UDTT!!‘라는 타이틀로 꼭 신인상을 받고 싶습니다.
YEJIN: I really want to perform on a year-end stage! 연말무대에 꼭 오르고 싶습니다!
What kind of image or message do you want UDTT to represent as you continue your journey? 앞으로의 활동을 통해 UDTT가 어떤 이미지나 메시지를 전하는 그룹이 되기를 바라시나요?
RISAKO: Through our activities as UDTT, I hope many people can find strength. I want our songs to make people feel excited, our voices to bring comfort, and our performances to energize them. I want to be a source of strength for someone! 저희 UDTT의 활동을 통해 많은분들이 힘이 생겼으면 좋겠어요. 이 노래 들으면 신난다거나, 이 목소리를 들으면 마음이 편해진다거나, 이 퍼포먼스 보면 힘이 난다거나, 누군가의 힘이 되고싶습니다!
CHAEHEE: We, UDTT, want to be a group that gives a little hope and happiness to people in their mundane daily lives. No one can always be happy, so when happiness fades even a little, I want to fill that gap for them! 저희 UDTT는 무료한 일상에 조금의 희망과 행복을 주는 그룹이 되고 싶습니다. 모든사람은 항상 행복 할 수만은 없으니 행복이 조금이라도 사라졌을때 그부분을 채워드리고 싶습니다!
HANNA: I hope that through our performances, good energy and sincerity can be conveyed. My first goal is to become an artist who can be a small source of strength for someone! 무대를 통해 좋은 에너지와 진심이 전해졌으먼 좋겠어요. 누군가에게 작은 힘이 될 수 있는 아티스트가 되는 게 저의 첫 목표에요!
YEJIN: Through our future activities, I hope UDTT can be remembered as a team that provides joy and comfort, and as artists whose sincerity can be felt. A team that can be a source of comfort when people are struggling, that’s what I hope for. 앞으로의 활동을 통해 UDTT가 즐거움과 위로를 줄 수 있는 팀, 그리고 진심이 느껴지는 아티스트로 기억되면 좋겠어요. 힘들 때 저희 노래를 들으면 위로가 되는 그런 팀이요.
