Seven songs. One story. Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA) talks rebuilding, reconnecting, and revealing his truest self through music.
Since debuting with BTOB in 2012, Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA) has earned praise as a dynamic performer and a gifted all-around artist. Whether delivering powerful vocals, sharp rap verses, or heartfelt lyrics, he brings an unmistakable sincerity to every stage and studio session. Beyond his work with BTOB and its subunits BTOB 4U and 90TAN, Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA) has continued to build a solo identity defined by musical depth and emotional storytelling.
After releasing his first solo studio album, HUTAZONE, in 2019 and his second full-length album BOOM in 2022, Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA) returns with his new EP, [HOOK], released on July 21, 2025. Featuring seven tracks, including the dreamy and emotionally rich title song “Bora,” the EP is a reflection of Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA)’s evolution as a songwriter and composer. He participated in writing and composing every track, pouring his creative vision into a project that balances vulnerability with strength.
In this exclusive interview, Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA) shares the inspiration behind [HOOK], the stories woven into each song, and what this release means to him as an artist continuing to grow and define his sound.

Hi Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA), congratulations on your new EP, [HOOK]. It feels like a meaningful moment in your solo journey. When you reflect on where you are in your career today, what kind of message or emotion did you hope to share with listeners through this release? 안녕하세요, HUTA님. 새 EP [HOOK] 발매를 축하드립니다. 솔로 활동에서 의미 있는 순간을 맞이한 것 같습니다. 현재 자신의 커리어를 돌아볼 때, 이번 앨범을 통해 청취자들에게 어떤 메시지나 감정을 전달하고 싶었나요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): I treat every moment as my first, and I strive to give it my all. At the same time, I want to be recognized as a highly accomplished and talented artist. I'm just getting started, and I'm looking forward to meeting Melodies from all over the world! 매 순간 처음이라고 생각하고 최선을 다하고자 합니다. 그러면서도 아주 완성도 있고 실력 있는 아티스트로서 비치기를 원합니다. 저는 이제 시작이며 전 세계에 있는 멜로디를 기다리고 있습니다!
The album’s name, [HOOK], has many possible meanings in music. What does the title represent to you personally? 앨범명 [HOOK]은 음악적으로 여러 의미를 담고 있는데요. 개인적으로 이 제목이 어떤 의미를 담고 있다고 생각하시나요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): I wanted to create music that, like the hook of a fishing rod, lingers in listeners’ minds and is hard to forget. Since the concept of this album is based on a martial artist, it also expresses my determination to make an impact with a powerful “hook,” just like a boxing technique. 낚싯대의 갈고리 훅처럼 리스너들에게 잊히지 않는, 계속 맴도는 음악을 주고 싶었고 이번 앨범 콘셉트로 격투기 선수를 가져왔기에 복싱 기술인 강력한 ’훅‘으로 임팩트를 남기겠다는 의지의 표현하기도 합니다. You were hands-on in writing and composing every track on [HOOK]. What aspect of the album are you most proud of? [HOOK]에 수록된 모든 곡의 작사와 작곡에 직접 참여하셨는데요. 앨범에서 가장 자랑스러운 부분은 무엇인가요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): When preparing my solo albums, I always work on writing and composing every track myself. This album was no exception. Even though it was an incredibly busy time, I want to commend myself for creating an album that’s even more polished and complete than before. 늘 저의 솔로 앨범을 준비할 때는 전곡 자작곡으로 준비합니다. 이번 앨범도 마찬가지였죠. 아주 바쁜 시기였음에도 이전보다 더 완성도 높은 앨범을 완성시킨 것에 스스로를 칭찬하고 싶습니다.
The title track “Bora” stands out with its vibrant yet sentimental energy. What story were you hoping to tell through this song, and why did you choose it to lead the album? 타이틀곡 “Bora”는 생동감 있으면서도 감성적인 에너지가 돋보입니다. 이 곡을 통해 어떤 이야기를 전하고 싶으셨고, 앨범의 리드 곡으로 선정한 이유는 무엇인가요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): This song best fits the image that the artist, Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA), wants to portray. Energy, dynamics, power, and other qualities that I strive to express are all contained in this title track, "Bora." ‘이민혁 (HUTA)’이라는 아티스트가 보여주고 싶어 하는 이미지에 가장 잘 부합하는 노래였습니다. ‘에너지‘, ’다이내믹‘, ’파워‘ 등등 저를 표현하고자 하는 것들이 이번 타이틀곡 “Bora”에 모두 담겨있습니다.
The structure of the EP flows like a full narrative. Did you design the tracklist to follow a certain emotional arc or personal journey? EP 전체가 하나의 완성된 서사처럼 흐르는데요, 수록곡 순서를 특정한 감정의 흐름이나 개인적인 여정을 따라 설계한 건가요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): Since the ‘introduction, development, climax, and conclusion’ are crucial to everything, I felt the tracklist order was also crucial. I worked hard to ensure it felt like a natural story, and BTOB Company recommended the current tracklist to me, aligning it with the narrative structure. 모든 것에는 ‘기승전결’이 중요하기에 트랙리스트 순서도 중요하다고 생각했습니다. 하나의 스토리처럼 자연스럽게 느껴질 수 있도록 고심했고 ’비투비 컴퍼니‘가 지금의 트랙리스트를 기승전결에 맞게 추천해 줬습니다.
As a songwriter, how do you balance vulnerability and creativity when writing lyrics drawn from personal experiences? Were there any tracks on [HOOK] that were particularly hard or healing to write? 작사가로서 개인적인 경험에서 영감을 받은 가사를 쓸 때, 어떻게 취약성과 창의성 사이의 균형을 맞추시나요? 특히 쓰기 힘들거나 치유가 되었던 곡이 있었나요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): Writing lyrics that show off style and confidently express oneself is the hardest for me because, honestly, that’s not really my personality. Still, when I step out as the artist Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA), I make an effort to have the mindset that I’m the coolest and the best. In that sense, my solo album title tracks— “YA,” “BOOM,” and this album, “Bora”—were all difficult to write. 멋을 나타내는 가사, 스스로를 멋지게 표현해 내는 그런 가사가 쓰기 가장 어렵습니다. 사실 제가 그런 성격이 못되거든요. 그래도 아티스트 이민혁 (HUTA)으로 나설 때에는 스스로를 더 멋지다고, 최고라고 마인드셋을 가져가는 노력을 하고 있습니다. 그런 의미에서 저의 솔로 앨범 타이틀곡이었던 “YA,” “BOOM,” 그리고 이번 [HOOK]앨범의 “Bora”또한 쓰기 어려웠습니다.
As both a singer and rapper, how did you decide when to showcase each side of your artistry across the tracks on [HOOK]? What guided those choices? 가수이자 래퍼로서, [HOOK]의 각 트랙에서 각자의 예술적 면모를 보여줄 시점을 어떻게 결정하셨나요? 그러한 선택의 기준은 무엇이었나요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): I don't particularly think about "what points should I highlight and how should I show them." I simply try to maximize the emotions of the music I create on stage, reflecting those emotions. 특별히 ’어떠한 점을 꼽아서 어떻게 보여주겠다‘를 생각을 하지는 않습니다. 그저 제가 좋아해서 만든 음악들을 그 감성에 맞게 무대 위에서 극대화하려고 노력합니다.
Which track on the album felt the most experimental for you, either musically or lyrically, and why?앨범에서 음악적으로나 가사적으로 가장 실험적이었다고 느낀 곡은 무엇이며, 그 이유는 무엇인가요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): For the same reasons I mentioned earlier, the title track, “Bora,” and the first track, “V,” were the most challenging yet also the most experimental for me. The lyrics contained a significant portion of foreign language. This was a new challenge for me, and it was an experiment in itself. 위에서 답변드린 것과 같은 이유로 이번 타이틀곡 “Bora,” 그리고 1번 트랙 ’V’가 가장 어려우면서 동시에 저에겐 실험적이었습니다. 가사에서 차지하는 외국어 비중이 굉장히 높았거든요. 저에겐 이러한 도전이 처음이었고 실험 그 자체였습니다.
How has your perspective as an artist evolved since HUTAZONE?’ In what ways do you think [HOOK] reflects who you are today? HUTAZONE이후 아티스트로서의 관점이 어떻게 변했나요? [HOOK]이 오늘날의 HUTA님을 어떻게 반영한다고 생각하시나요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): My first solo album, released under the name ‘HUTAZONE.’ If it weren’t for this album, I probably wouldn’t be the solo artist I am today. The reason I say something so obvious is that, before my first solo album, I didn’t have much confidence in myself. Actually, it’s more accurate to say I had confidence, but it was at a very low point. During a time when I couldn’t even imagine pursuing solo activities, my mandatory military service was approaching, and before going, I wanted to leave behind at least one significant mark. At that time, my older brother strongly pushed for my solo album and helped drive it forward, and with that encouragement, I was able to release my first solo album. Whether when I was young or now, my brother has always been my biggest source of inspiration. Going through that process led to the completion of today’s [HOOK] album, which shows my current confidence and a more polished version of Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA). ‘HUTAZONE’의 이름으로 나온 저의 첫 번째 솔로 앨범. 이 앨범이 없었다면 솔로 아티스트로서의 저는 지금도 없었을 겁니다. 너무 당연한 소리를 하는 이유는, 첫 솔로 앨범 전까지 저는 제 스스로에게 자신감이 없었습니다. 아니, 있었는데 많이 낮아진 시기였다고 말해도 좋을 것 같아요. 그래서 솔로 활동은 상상조차 하지 못했던 시기에 국방의 의무를 이행해야 하는 시기가 다가왔고, 가기 전에 뭐라도 하나 커다란 족적을 남기고 싶었어요. 그때 친형이 저의 솔로 앨범을 강력하게 푸시 하며 추진해 줬고 그에 용기를 얻어 첫 솔로 앨범을 내게 됐어요. 어릴 때나 지금이나 저의 형은 저에게 가장 큰 영감을 주는 사람이에요. 그 과정을 지나고 오늘날의 [HOOK] 앨범이 완성됐고 이 앨범은 지금의 저의 자신감, 더욱 완성도 높은 버전의 이민혁 (HUTA)을 보여주고 있습니다.
Was there a particular challenge you faced in the studio or while filming the music video that pushed you outside your comfort zone or taught you something new about yourself? 스튜디오 작업이나 뮤직비디오 촬영 중에 특히 편안한 영역을 벗어나게 만들었던 도전이나, 자신에 대해 새롭게 배운 순간이 있었나요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): I spent a lot of time filming exercise content for this album. Unlike my previous weight training, it was aerobic exercise that required a lot of stamina. It was really tough, but it gave me a sense of refreshment and accomplishment, and it motivated me to keep trying new things (aerobic exercise). 이번 앨범의 콘텐츠로 운동하는 콘텐츠 촬영에 많이 다녔는데 기존에 하던 웨이트 운동과 달리 체력을 많이 요하는 유산소성 운동이었어요. 정말 힘들었지만 상쾌함과 성취감이 드는 새로운 도전(유산소성 운동)을 꾸준히 하고 싶다는 의욕이 생겼습니다.
As someone with over a decade of experience in the industry, how do you protect your artistic voice when trends in the music industry are constantly shifting? 10년이 넘는 경력을 가진 아티스트로서, 음악 산업의 트렌드가 끊임없이 변하는 가운데 어떻게 자신의 예술적 목소리를 지키고 있나요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): I think I'm greatly influenced by the people I work with. As you mentioned, after being in the music industry for over 10 years, there were times when I felt exhausted just listening to music (because I was constantly listening to music even while working). But at those times, I've been positively influenced by my collaborators. That's how I cultivate the strength to stay relevant. 함께 음악을 하는 사람들에게 많은 영향을 받는 것 같아요. 말씀 주신 것처럼 10년이 넘는 시간동안 음악 산업에 있다 보니, 음악을 듣는 것에도 지치는 순간들이 있었는데(작업을 하는 동안에도 계속 음악을 듣다 보니) 그럴 때 함께 작업하는 분들에게 좋은 영향을 많이 받고 있어요. 그러면서 계속 트렌디함을 유지하는 힘을 기르는 것 같습니다.
Over the past few years, you've become a fan-favorite at Waterbomb thanks to your powerful charisma, live vocals, and unexpected stage moments. What do you love most about performing in that high-energy festival setting? 최근 몇 년간 Waterbomb 페스티벌에서 강렬한 카리스마와 라이브 보컬, 예상치 못한 무대 매너로 팬들에게 큰 사랑을 받고 계시는데요, 그처럼 에너지 넘치는 페스티벌 무대에서 공연하는 것의 가장 큰 매력은 무엇인가요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): There’s an indescribable thrill and excitement that comes with performing in front of such a huge crowd at a festival. It’s a massive rush of adrenaline and dopamine. I want to give back that positive energy I receive to the audience, so I work even harder to create a great performance .페스티벌답게 정말 많은 사람들 앞에서 무대를 하는 표현할 수 없는 쾌감과 흥분이 있습니다. 그것은 정말 큰 아드레날린이며 도파민입니다. 제가 받는 그런 긍정의 에너지를 관객분들에게도 돌려주고 싶어서 더 열심히 좋은 무대를 만들려고 노력합니다.
Fans know you as someone who’s always having fun on stage, but when you're offstage, how do you like to unwind or recharge creatively? 팬들은 당신을 무대 위에서는 항상 즐거운 시간을 보내는 사람으로 알고 있지만, 무대 아래에서는 어떻게 휴식을 취하거나 창의력을 재충전하시나요?
Lee Min Hyuk (HUTA): My daily life is very ordinary and quite uneventful. It’s just a cycle of home–workout–schedule–home–workout–schedule. I tend to recharge my energy while I’m at home. 저의 일상은 굉장히 평범하고 심심합니다. 집-운동-스케줄-집-운동-스케줄의 연속입니다. 저는 집에 있으면서 에너지를 얻는 편입니다.
