YOUNITE Talk Lyrics, What They Are Proud Of, and Growth in ‘YOUNI-T’

The members of YOUNITE reflect on their growth, songwriting process, and what keeps them connected as a team in exclusive interview.

Since their debut in April 2022, YOUNITE has carved out a name for themselves as one of K-pop’s most promising rising boy groups. Composed of eight talented members—Eunho, Steve, Eunsang, Hyungseok, Woono, DEY, Kyungmun, and Sion, YOUNITE stands for the idea that “YOU and I: we are connected,” a message they've carried throughout their artistic journey. From their powerful debut EP ‘YOUNI-BIRTH’ to the vibrant energy of ‘YOUNI-Q’ and ‘YOUNI-ON,’ the group has consistently showcased their versatility in sound and concept. With each comeback, they’ve proven their ability to evolve while staying true to their core identity.

In 2023, YOUNITE dove deeper into emotional storytelling with their ‘빛: BIT’ series, and in early 2024, they continued that momentum with their sixth mini-album, ‘ANOTHER.’ Their participation in Mnet’s Road to Kingdom: Ace of Ace further solidified their growth, spotlighting their commanding stage presence and refined artistry. Known for their strong teamwork and individual strengths, YOUNITE is not only pushing musical boundaries but also cultivating a deeper connection with fans around the world.

Now, fresh off the release of their seventh mini-album ‘YOUNI-T’ on April 23, 2025, YOUNITE invites fans into their latest era, one that balances fiery energy with heartfelt introspection. Featuring the electric title track “Rock Steady” and unit songs that spotlight each member’s musical color, the album is a testament to their creative ambition. In our exclusive interview, the members open up about their songwriting process, the meaning behind the tracks, and how Youni-T reflects their growth as artists and a team.

Congratulations on the release of your 7th mini album, ‘YOUNI-T’! What does this comeback mean to you as a group?

일곱 번째 미니 앨범 'YOUNI-T' 발매 축하드려요! 이번 컴백은 그룹으로서 어떤 의미가 있나요?

Eunsang: I think this comeback is an opportunity for YOUNITE to try out various genres and concepts. Our title track “Rock Steady” carries the essence of our previous songs while also showcasing a new side of us, so we hope everyone will look forward to it and give it lots of love.

유나이트가 다양한 장르와 콘셉트에 시도하는 기회인 것 같습니다. 이번 타이틀곡 ‘Rock Steady’는 유나이트의 이전 곡들의 떠오르면서도, 새로운 모습도 담아 표현하기 위해 노력했으니 많은 관심 부탁드립니다.

DEY: I think YOUNITE’s latest album is a challenge to showcase a new genre to our fans and the public.

유나이트의 이번 앨범은 새로운 장르를 팬분들과 대중들께 선보이는 도전이라고 생각합니다.

‘YOUNI-T’ marks your seventh mini album. What did you want to showcase or express most with this album? Is there a specific message or emotion you hope fans take away from it?

'YOUNI-T'는 일곱 번째 미니 앨범입니다. 이번 앨범은 7번째 미니 앨범입니다. 이번 앨범을 통해 보여주거나 표현하고 싶었던 부분은 무엇인가요? 팬들에게 닿았으면 하는 특별한 메시지나 감정이 있을까요? 

Kyungmun: For this album, the members formed different teams to create unit songs highlighting each member's strengths in more detail. I'm originally a vocalist, but I was part of the hip-hop unit, where we showcased a strong hip-hop-style track. I wanted to show that I can handle not only vocals but also rap and hip-hop.

이번 앨범에는 멤버들끼리 각 팀을 만들어 유닛곡을 통해 각 멤버들의 강점을 더 자세히 담아냈습니다. 저는 원래 보컬 포지션이지만 힙합팀에 속해 강한 힙합 스타일의 곡을 보여드렸는데, 보컬뿐 아니라 랩과 힙합도 소화할 수 있다는 모습을 보여주고 싶었습니다.

Sion: With every album, we try to present a concept that suits YOUNITE well. I hope our fans also feel that these new sides we’re showing fit us perfectly. And as we continue to release more albums, we want to keep showing an even cooler version of YOUNITE.

매 앨범마다 유나이트에게 잘 어울리는 모습을 담아내려고 노력하고 있는데, 팬분들도 새로 보여주는 저희의 모습들이 잘 어울린다고 생각해 주셨으면 좋겠습니다. 그리고 앨범이 늘어날수록 더 멋져진 유나이트의 모습을 보여드리고 싶습니다.

Each of your albums has a unique concept. How would you describe the color or identity of ‘YOUNI-T’ compared to your past releases?

각 앨범마다의 콘셉트가 있었습니다. 이전 앨범들과 비교했을 때 이번 앨범만의 색이나 정체성에 대해 어떻게 설명할 수 있을까요? 

Eunho: I think this album allows us to showcase our color and identity through a variety of music and our first-ever unit songs.

이번 앨범은 다채로운 음악과 또 처음 선보이는 유닛 노래들로 저희들의 색과 정체성을 보여드릴 수 있을 것 같습니다. 

Steve: This album includes unit tracks, and since each unit and each member brings a different style, it feels more unique and distinct compared to our previous albums.

이번 앨범에는 유닛곡들이 수록되었는데, 각 유닛마다, 본인마다 스타일이 모두 다르게 담겨있어서 예전 앨범보다 색다른 느낌이 있습니다.

The title track “Rock Steady” has a bold and energetic sound. What makes this song stand out to you personally?

타이틀곡 ‘락 스테디’는 에너제틱한 사운드를 가지고 있습니다. 이 곡이 눈에 띄는 이유는 뭐라고 생각하나요?

Hyungseok: There's a part in the "Rock Steady" choreography where we all jump together—it's a really fun and exciting move, so I think it’ll catch people’s attention.“Rock Steady”

안무에 다 같이 뛰는 동작이 있는데 굉장히 신나 보이고 재밌는 동작이라서 눈에 띄지 않을까 생각합니다. 

Woono: The title track this time is in the ‘New Jack Swing’ genre, which is a style we’re trying for the first time, so I think that makes it stand out.

이번 타이틀곡 장르가 ‘뉴 잭 스윙’인데, 처음 해보는 스타일의 곡이라 눈에 띄는 거 같습니다.

Is there a particular part of the album each of you is most proud of—maybe a line you wrote, a vocal delivery, or a choreography point?

이번 앨범에서 각자의 가장 주목해줬으면 하는 부분이 있을까요? 직접 쓴 가사, 보컬적인 부분 혹은 안무 포인트 등에서.

Eunho: I hope everyone will pay special attention to the three unit songs included in this album! Of course, all the tracks are meaningful and great, but these three songs, in particular, reflect a lot of the members’ direct involvement, so I’d love for you to notice the effort we put into them.

이번 앨범에 수록된 3곡의 유닛곡들에 집중해 주시면 좋을 것 같습니다! 다른 곡들도 소중하고 너무 좋지만, 특히 이 3곡에는 멤버들의 곡 참여도가 높아서 멤버들의 노력이 담겨있는 만큼 주목해 주셨으면 하는 바람입니다. 

Steve: I would really appreciate it if people focused on the unit songs in this album. There’s a hip-hop track, an R&B track, and a ballad. Each team worked hard to prepare them, so I hope you’ll listen to them a lot!

이번 앨범에서는 유닛곡들 집중해 줬으면 좋겠습니다. 힙합, R&B 그리고 발라드 곡들이 수록되어 있는데 각 팀마다 열심히 준비했으니 많이 들어 주시면 감사하겠습니다! 

Eunsang: I paid a lot of attention to the recording process. I spent time reflecting on and studying my voice. Personally, I think my vocals show very distinct tones and nuances depending on the genre, so I put a lot of thought into how to bring out the right tone and character for each song while recording.

녹음에 신경을 많이 써보았습니다. 제 목소리에 대해 고민과 연구를 많이 했는데요, 스스로 제 보컬은 장르마다 쓰는 톤과 뉘앙스의 차이가 극명한 보컬이라고 생각합니다. 그래서 곡마다 보컬 톤과 캐릭터를 어떻게 살려갈지에 대한 고민을 여러 번 해가며, 녹음에 힘을 실어보았습니다. 

Hyungseok: In the hip-hop unit track "Who’s Next" (Hyungseok, DEY), I’d love for you to focus on the line, “Snakes tongue 같지 넌 앞뒤 재는 버릇없어” because I wrote the lyrics myself.

힙합 유닛의 곡인 ‘Who’s Next (형석, DEY, 경문)’에서 ‘Snakes tongue 같지 넌 앞뒤 재는 버릇없어’라는 가사에 주목해 주셨으면 좋겠습니다! 이유는 제가 작사했기 때문입니다. 

DEY: Hyungseok participated in a song for the first time with "Who’s Next" (Hyungseok, DEY, Kyungmun), and he did a great job. So I hope you’ll pay close attention to his rap and lyrics!

‘Who’s Next (형석, DEY, 경문)’에 형석이 형이 처음으로 곡에 참여하게 되었는데 정말 잘 한 것 같아서 형석이 형의 랩과 작사를 잘봐 주시면 좋을 것 같습니다. 

Woono: I think the choreography for our title track “Rock Steady” is a major highlight of this album. The dance includes flashy steps that make it even more exciting and fun to enjoy while listening to the song!

저는 타이틀곡 ‘Rock Steady’ 안무가 이번 앨범의 포인트라고 생각하는데요, 이번 춤엔 화려한 스텝이 들어가 있어서 더욱 신나게 함께 노래를 즐기실 수 있기 때문입니다! 

Kyungmun: In the “Rock Steady” choreography, please look out for the hand gesture that symbolizes rock and the fun retro-style step dance over a nostalgic beat! It’s super catchy and quite difficult, so I challenge viewers to try it too!

이번 타이틀곡 ‘Rock Steady’ 안무 중에서 락을 상징하는 손가락 포인트와 추억의 레트로 비트 위에 추는 신나는 스텝 춤을 잘 지켜봐 주세요! 중독성 강하고 또 많이 어려우니 보는 분들도 한번 도전해 보세요! 

Sion: I think you’ll be able to hear how much my vocals have improved throughout this album! I practiced hard before recording, which led to me getting more lines, and I’m planning to give my best in live performances as well, so please keep an eye out!

이번 앨범에서 전체적으로 성장한 저의 보컬을 느끼실 수 있을 것 같습니다! 앨범 녹음하기 전까지 보컬 연습을 열심히 해서 파트도 많아졌고, 무대에서 라이브도 열심히 할 예정이니 지켜봐 주세요!

Are there any b-sides tracks on the album that you think deserve the spotlight? What do you love most about the track or tracks you mentioned?

앨범 B-side 트랙 중 특별히 주목해야 할 트랙이 있나요? 언급하신 트랙에서 가장 마음에 드는 부분은 무엇인가요?

Hyungseok: I’d say it’s track three, “Gasoline!” It’s a song gifted to us by AB6IX’s Lee Daehwi sunbaenim, and personally, it’s my favorite. I really love the vibe. It’s sexy yet sentimental at the same time!

3번 트랙에 수록된 Gasoline생각합니다! AB6IX 이대휘 선배님께서 주신 곡인데, 개인적으로 가장 좋아하는 노래이며 섹시한 듯 아련한 느낌이 너무 좋습니다! 

Sion: I really love track seven, “Good to Go,” and track six, “Miracle Day” (Eunsang, Woono, Sion). Both songs really fill me with emotion when I sing them. 

7번 트랙 ‘Good to Go’, 6번 트랙 ‘Miracle Day (은상, 우노, 시온) 두 곡을 정말 좋아하는데요, 불렀을 때 감성이 충만해지는 곡인 것 같습니다.

Can you share a fun or memorable behind-the-scenes moment from the MV shoot for “Rock Steady?”"Rock Steady"

뮤직비디오 촬영 현장에서 재미있거나 기억에 남는 장면을 공유해 주시겠어요?

Eunho: There was a scene where all the members danced without forming any specific formation, and I think that felt really fresh and fun.

멤버들 각자 여러 방향으로 대형을 갖추지 않고 춤추는 씬이 있었는데 색다르고 재밌었던 것 같습니다. 

Steve: There’s a scene where Hyungseok pushes me, and I fall down. We filmed it playfully, as if we were joking around, so it was really comfortable and fun. But I do remember my palm hurting a bit afterward.

형석이가 저를 밀다가 제가 넘어지는 씬이 있는데 장난치듯이 편하고 재밌게 촬영했던 것 같습니다. 그런데 손바닥이 좀 아팠던 기억이 있습니다.

You recently appeared on ‘Road to Kingdom: Ace of Ace.’ How did that experience influence or inspire the work you put into this album?

최근 '로드 투 킹덤: 에이스 오브 에이스'에 출연하셨는데요, 그 경험이 이번 앨범 작업에 어떤 영향을 주거나 영감을 주셨나요?

Eunsang: I had the chance to meet so many professionals. Not just the cast, but also the staff who worked tirelessly day and night. Seeing them reminded me of what true professionalism looks like. The program really made me reflect on that sense of responsibility, and I think it will continue to influence me going forward. Along with this album, that experience has become a major source of motivation.

프로페셔널한 분들을 많이 만나 뵈었습니다. 출연진뿐만 아니라, 밤낮없이 제작하시는 스태프분들을 보면서도 느꼈는데요. 프로페셔널함에 대해서 다시 곱씹어 느끼게 해준 프로그램이고, 그러한 책임 의식이 이번 앨범과 더불어, 앞으로도 많은 영향들을 느끼게 해주며, 다시 한번 그때를 떠올리며 큰 동력이 될 것 같습니다. 

Woono: I think the biggest improvement has been YOUNITE’s teamwork. While preparing for the program, we had a lot of discussions and practiced together, which really strengthened our bond. We also developed the ability to handle difficult choreography much better.

우선 가장 크게 발전한 부분은 유나이트의 팀워크인 것 같습니다. 프로그램을 준비하면서 함께 상의도 많이 하고 연습하고 하는 과정에서 단합력이 많이 올라갔습니다. 그리고 어려운 안무도 잘 소화해낼 수 있는 능력이 생겼습니다.

From your debut with ‘YOUNI-Birth’ to now with ‘YOUNI-T’, how would you say your teamwork or identity as YOUNITE has evolved?

데뷔곡 'YOUNI-Birth'부터 지금의 'YOUNI-T'까지 YOUNITE로서의 팀워크나 정체성은 어떻게 변화했다고 생각하시나요?

DEY: Since our debut, our teamwork has continued to improve every day. As for our identity, rather than defining it as one specific thing, I believe we’re still in the process of discovering it. We are constantly taking on new challenges and trying different concepts to show fresh sides of ourselves.

데뷔 이후 나날이 팀워크는 항상 발전하고 있고, 정체성은 정확히 어떠한 하나로 정의한다기보다는 매번 다채로운 도전과 시도를 통해 새로운 모습을 보여드리려 노력 중이기에 아직 찾아가고 있다고 생각합니다. 

Kyungmun: I think our teamwork and identity have grown through open and honest conversations among the members. While working together, we give each other straightforward feedback to guide things in a better direction. Thanks to that, we’ve grown a lot professionally and improved significantly.

멤버들끼리 숨김없는 대화를 통해 팀워크와 정체성이 발전했다고 생각합니다. 함께 일하는 과정에서는 서로 냉정하게 피드백을 주고받으며 더 좋은 방향으로 이끌어갑니다. 그 덕분에 프로페셔널한 부분도 많이 성장하고 많이 발전한 것 같습니다.

What’s something you’ve learned from each other while preparing for this comeback?

이번 컴백을 준비하면서 서로에게 배운 점이 있나요?

Steve: This album contains a variety of concepts, and I realized that each member can embody those concepts in their own unique way. Even when it's the same concept, seeing how each member interprets and expresses it differently was a great learning experience for me.

이번 앨범에는 다양한 콘셉트가 담겨있는데 멤버들이 각자의 매력으로 콘셉트를 소화할 수 있다는 점을 알 수 있었고, 또 같은 콘셉트이지만 멤버별로 다르게 표현해 내는 것을 보며 배우는 계기가 된 것 같습니다. 

Hyungseok: In our title track “Rock Steady,” I think DEY’s incredible energy really stands out. I learned a lot about how to infuse that kind of energy into a song.

타이틀곡 ‘Rock Steady’에서 DEY의 엄청난 에너지가 유독 잘 담긴 것 같아서 곡에 에너지를 담아내는 방법을 배웠습니다.

If you could swap talents or roles with another member for one stage performance, who would you switch with and why?

만약 한 무대 공연에서 다른 멤버와 재능이나 역할을 바꿀 수 있다면 누구와 바꾸고 싶나요? 그리고 그 이유는 무엇인가요?

Woono: DEY really stood out to me. He nailed a fast rap in his part while also pulling off the gestures perfectly. It was seriously impressive.DEY. DEY가 본인 파트에서 빠른 랩을 소화하면서도 제스처까지 완벽하게 해내는 모습이 멋져 보였습니다. 

Sion: For me, it’s Eunho and Kyungmun. I’d love to be able to hit high notes as powerfully and effortlessly as they do.

When you're not practicing or promoting, what’s one thing that helps you unwind or recharge?

연습이나 홍보 활동을 하지 않을 때, 스트레스를 풀고 재충전하는 데 도움이 되는 것은 무엇인가요?

Eunho: When I rest, I usually relax by lying down and watching videos. I mostly enjoy content on YouTube, dramas, and movies.

저는 쉴 때 주로 누워서 영상을 보며 힐링을 하는 편입니다. 유튜브나 드라마, 영화 등을 주로 감상합니다. 

Eunsang: I like spending time alone, reflecting and envisioning the future. I’m drawn to a life with vision, so the songs I write and compose become a big source of strength for me. Believing that they’ll become a reality someday helps me grow my ideas, and that time is incredibly empowering.

혼자 고민하며 미래를 그리는 걸 좋아합니다. 비전 있는 삶을 좋아하는데요, 그래서 저만의 창작물인 작사, 작곡을 한 곡들이 저에게 큰 힘이 됩니다. 곧 실현될 수 있다는 믿음과 함께 나의 생각들을 키워나가는 시간을 가지는 것, 그 시간들이 큰 힘이 됩니다. 

What song from your discography would you recommend fans listen to first if they’re meeting YOUNITE through this album?

이 앨범을 통해 YOUNITE를 만나는 팬들에게 디스코그래피에서 어떤 노래를 먼저 들어보라고 추천하고 싶으신가요?

DEY: I’d have to recommend the title track of our latest album, “Rock Steady.” I think it really captures the fun, energetic vibe unique to YOUNITE, and you’ll get to see us enjoying ourselves on stage. 

아무래도 이번 앨범의 타이틀곡 ‘Rock Steady’를 추천드리고 싶습니다. 유나이트만의 신나는 분위기와 무대를 즐기며 노는 모습을 볼 수 있을 거라고 생각되기 때문입니다. 

Kyungmun: I’d recommend “I GOT THE FEELING” from our debut album. I believe that song marks the beginning of YOUNITE’s journey and truly represents our identity.

저는 데뷔 앨범의 ‘그런 느낌이 와’를 추천해 드리고 싶습니다. 이 노래가 유나이트의 역사의 시작이자 유나이트의 정체성이라고 생각이 듭니다.
