RESCENE is back, and they’re glowing brighter than ever! Glow Up delivers a flawless mix of R&B, funk, and jazz influences, proving that this rising girl group is here to stay.

RESCENE has quickly made its mark on the industry with its ability to deliver diverse and engaging concepts. With their second mini album, ‘Glow Up,’ the five-member girl group (consisting of Woni, Liv, Minami, May, and Zena) continues solidifying their presence, offering a refined and cohesive musical experience showcasing their evolution since its debut. This album not only highlights their vocal prowess but also reinforces their ability to experiment with different styles while staying true to their signature sound.

Be sure to check out my interviews with the members from their debut and leading up to ‘Scendrome’ in 2024.

Title Track Breakdown – “Glow Up”

The album’s title track, “Glow Up,” is an effortlessly catchy yet laidback mid-tempo song. It leans into sweet, airy vocals and a smooth production style that feels both modern and nostalgic. The track’s groove-driven beat and soft, shimmering melodies make it a standout, though many fans have voiced one major complaint—it’s simply too short! While the song is an easy listen, it never overstays its welcome, leaving listeners wanting more. Compared to their previous title tracks, ‘Glow Up’ leans more into subtlety rather than high-energy hooks, showing RESCENE’s growing confidence in their artistry.

Notable Tracks

Crash Serving as the perfect album opener, "Crash" sets the tone with a calm yet effervescent mid-tempo melody. The song feels fresh and inviting, pulling listeners in with its subtle charm and dreamy soundscape.

Going On This funky dance-inspired track is a definite standout, emphasizing RESCENE’s tight harmonies and unique vocal tones. "Going On" is vibrant and infectious, adding a fresh dynamic to the album while allowing each member to shine individually.

In My Lotion An R&B-pop fusion that incorporates drum and bass elements, "In My Lotion" manages to feel effortlessly cool and surprisingly special. Its smooth production and intricate layering make it one of the more intriguing tracks on the album.

Cotton Candy Wrapping up the album on a high note, "Cotton Candy" is a jazz-influenced track that could easily have served as a title song in its own right. The warm instrumentation and silky vocal delivery make it a memorable and fitting conclusion to the EP.

Overall Themes & Concept

Glow Up stays true to RESCENE’s signature versatility while refining their sound. The album balances playful energy with a more polished and mature approach, reflecting their growth since debut. Unlike their debut single ‘Re:Scene,’ which had a bold and trendy edge, ‘Glow Up’ leans into effortless charm and smooth melodies. The music video complements this coming-of-age concept, presenting the members in unified styling that reinforces their tight-knit dynamic.

Final Thoughts

RESCENE continues to prove they are a group worth watching. 'Glow Up' builds upon their strengths—strong vocals, seamless genre-blending, and polished execution. While the title track could have benefited from a longer runtime, the album as a whole showcases the group’s ability to take on diverse styles without losing their identity. With over 8 million views on their music video in under a week, it’s clear that RESCENE’s rise is far from over.
